Our Commitment to Net Zero Isn't a Marketing Line. It's on My Roof.

A lot of companies in tourism talk about sustainability. They put a leaf icon on the homepage, buy a few offsets somewhere they'll never visit, and call it a day. I get why — sustainability sells, and offsets are cheap and easy.

We didn't want to do that. At Maverent, we wanted our commitment to Net Zero to be something we could actually point to. Something real, something we built ourselves, starting with the roof over my own head.

It started at home

Last year I installed 10.6kW of solar panels on my villa's roof here in Fuerteventura. That system doesn't just cover my own home — it compensates three of our rental units plus the villa itself. Every kilowatt-hour those guests use is offset by the sun hitting my roof, not by a certificate we bought from a company we've never met.

That was the proof of concept. If it worked for my own property, there was no reason it couldn't work across the rest of our portfolio.

Scaling it across the portfolio

The same logic now runs through more of our properties. At Casa Ducale, the solar installation produces enough energy to compensate not just itself, but also Casa Alisia. One roof, two properties, zero net emissions from the electricity they consume.

None of this happens without the right execution. To bring this vision to life, we partnered with Voltren, who handled the design and installation of these systems. Having a partner who understands both the technical side of solar and the realities of running it on occupied rental properties made it possible to move from "we should do this" to "this is done" — fast, and without disrupting our guests.

This is the model we're building toward across Maverent: every property pulling its weight, and where it can, pulling weight for its neighbors too.

Why this matters to us

Net Zero, done properly, isn't a claim. It's an engineering problem you solve property by property. We're not there for our entire portfolio yet — but we're not pretending we are, either. What we can say is that every system we install today is one less thing we'll have to fix later, and one more property that's carrying real weight toward the target.

More installations are coming. I'll keep sharing them here as we go — not because it's good marketing, but because it's the only way I know how to hold ourselves accountable.
